Process Technician

Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings ‚€“ carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of Position: As the Process Technician, you will utilize scientific principles and practices along with good judgement to effectively accomplish technical assignments and projects. You will make decisions based upon sound engineering and scientific methods and actively participate within and beyond department boundaries to resolve important process and product issues. Our team improves manufacturing capabilities through the implementation of new ideas and methods. Independently, you will execute projects to fulfill department goals and objectives.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Support engineering teams in cost reduction, process improvement and waste reduction projects

  • Provide problem solving support to production operations

  • Manage production process performance improvement projects (Safety, Yield, Cost, Capacity)

  • Collaborate with operators, team leaders, other specialists and peers to develop and implement process, equipment, or safety improvements into manufacturing

  • Work with engineering to develop equipment specifications/requirements and organize meetings with respective support groups to review proposals and quotes prior to purchasing

  • Develop maintenance and operator training and troubleshooting documentation

  • Provide feedback to division/process engineering during design reviews for new processes and equipment

  • Support other departments with data collection and reporting

  • Manage spare parts inventory for production equipment, including recommended changes and justifications

  • Support master trainers with the training of production personnel on new equipment

  • Formally document all aspects of improvement activities

  • Be a problem solver for plant equipment

  • Document processes and procedures required to enable production to run equipment and products efficiently and within specifications

  • Support the transfer of new cabling technology, materials, or processes from development to production. Provide processing support during product development, develop plans as to how the equipment/processes will be implemented into production and ensure that the new technology is repeatable in a production environment prior to transfer.

  • Ensure completion of all production and maintenance documentation such as MI's, SOP's, PM's, calibration, and troubleshooting guides

  • Work with and train maintenance and other support personnel to improve troubleshooting skills plant-wide

  • In all work: Maintain and Practice Corning Values; Consider safety implications in all decisions; Regularly review and consider available process data; When applicable consider input and review data with SMEs; Make sound engineering; data driven decisions; Communicate and document changes to enable expedited future responses; Track the production performances to ensure capability is maintained


Travel Requirements: Less than 5%. Periodic travel to Hickory Plant (approx 10 miles)


Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • Normal working hours are M ‚€“ F, 7 AM ‚€“ 4 PM.

  • Overtime could be required and a flexible schedule to accommodate 24/7 production support is required.

  • Informal 24/7 coverage for ad-hoc call-in support is required. (1st Level Subject Expert)


Required Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 2 year Technical Degree preferred


Required Years and Area of Experience:

  • 2+ years Manufacturing environment experience preferred

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
