Engineering Co-Op
Candidate will report to the Director of Technology, Engineering and QA; and work under direct supervision of the site Senior Welding Engineer.
PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Engineering Co-Op assists the Technology Group in product design/development related to welding products, using his/her knowledge of welding, engineering and materials science
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist the Technology Group in troubleshooting and development of welding products
Product design and troubleshooting of spooled wire, covered and uncovered electrodes, and welding flux products.
Project management of related engineering projects.
Document and/or verify documentation of product tests, including lab reports, work orders, and other technical documents.
Assist with creation of technical papers, presentations and related documents describing product performance.
Work with QA and Sales to address any product quality or customer complaints. Assist in troubleshooting of customer issues.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES MAY BE ASSIGNED AS NEEDED
REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Senior pursuing Bachelor's Degree in Welding Engineering, Metallurgy or Materials Science. Strong preference for specialization in nickel-based welding/metallurgy. Course of study should include several of the following:
Mathematics ? including algebra, trigonometry, solid and plane geometry, calculus and statistical methods
Welding/Joining Metallurgy - practical knowledge of ferrous and nonferrous materials including: carbon steel, various types of alloy steels, stainless steels, nickel and nickel alloys, aluminum and aluminum alloys, copper and copper alloys, titanium and titanium alloys, ceramics, and plastics. Includes an understanding of melting, solidification, solid-state transformations, thermal strains, and residual stress phenomena. Welding processes and pre- and post-welding heat-treating processes
Welding, Cutting, and Joining Processes - working knowledge of arc welding
Physics - including heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
Chemistry - general and inorganic chemistry
Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and Welding/Joining Economics - understanding of quality assurance systems and be able to participate in the implementation of quality assurance programs for welding procedures, destructive/non-destructive testing, visual inspection of welds, general NDE processes
Prefer individuals on track to achieve their AWS Certified Welding Engineer certificate
General understanding of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry
General understanding of Applied Sciences, including Strength of Materials, Heat Transfer and Fluid Mechanics
General understanding of NDE, NDE processes (radiographic, ultrasonic, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, eddy current, etc. - characteristics, advantages and limitations). NDE symbols
General understanding of Welding Processes and Controls (SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, SAW)
Strong organizational skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams to ensure that production requirements are met.
Candidate will develop experience in?
Research and development to enhance the performance or manufacturability of welding products
Working with customers and other subject-matter experts to solve real-world applications problems
Project management of real-world engineering projects
Technical documentation and presentations
Trade and industry standards (e.g. ISO, AWS, ASME)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Can lift up to 30 lbs
Can work on your feet for up to 4 continuous hours

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
