This position performs complex administrative work in support of the Board of Commissioners and County Management, at the County Clerk's direction.
These duties include assisting the Clerk with the maintenance of official County documents, coordinating and maintaining a permanent record of Board actions, researching and preparing various reports, coordinating scheduling and logistics for events and activities, and other office duties.
Work requires a high level of discretion, often involving confidential information, and is performed under moderate supervision by the County Clerk.
Responsibilities Assists County Clerk in compiling and distributing Board of Commissioners meeting agendas and maintaining County Code of Ordinances, official records, meeting minutes, and seals, and prepares indices and archives of this information; Primary point of phone contact for County Manager's Office; responds to citizen inquiries by ascertaining the nature of requests, routing to appropriate parties, coordinating follow-up, and providing information as needed; Provides administrative support across the County Manager's Office as requested, working to ensure adequate office coverage while working in a team-oriented, professional environment; Assists the Clerk in keeping up-to-date information on all County Board and Commission appointments and advertisements; prepares and distributes letters of appointment, reappointment and appreciation; Attends Board meetings, hearings, workshops, etc.
, as directed by County Clerk; prepares follow-up correspondence to notify department and/or public of Board actions in response to inquiries or as otherwise deemed appropriate; Manages public requests for use of County meeting rooms, grounds, and facilities; Represents County Manager's Office on various internal committees, as needed; Assists County Clerk with coordinating meetings for Commissioners and other officials as necessary, ensuring availability of rooms, equipment, materials, refreshments, etc.

Handles scheduling and travel arrangements including hotel an airline as needed; Assists County Clerk with organizing and coordinating special activities and events as needed; Receives and processes incoming mail; distributes outgoing mail; Compiles and distributes various ongoing and recurring communications; Maintains/updates Catawba County Intranet; Assists with variety of projects or assignments requiring research, documentation, as needed; Performs other related work as required by the County Clerk; Utilizes various computer software programs including word processing, file maintenance programs and format information as requested or otherwise necessary; and Must be familiar with the County Ordinances and North Carolina General Statutes that deal with local and County rules and laws in order to adequately assist the Clerk Commissioners, staff and general public.
Qualifications High school diploma and at least five (5) years of experience in administrative work or an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to exercise considerable tact and courtesy in frequent contact with public officials, news media representatives, and the general public, including irate citizens; Basic knowledge of the North Carolina General Statutes and of local ordinances governing the responsibilities of the County Clerk and County government in general; Basic knowledge of the procedures, responsibilities, and operation of the Board of County Commissioners and the operation of various County Departments; Thorough knowledge of computer programs including word processing, spread sheet and file maintenance programs; Thorough knowledge of grammar, punctuation, syntax and spelling with the ability to compose effectively:
Thorough knowledge of administrative practices and procedures; Strong organizational skills, including ability to effectively plan and set up meetings; Skill in making scheduling and travel arrangements and decisions.
Ability to express ideas orally and in writing, including composing accurate minutes, reports, and correspondence; Must be available for evening and early morning meetings; Must be a certified notary public or have the ability to obtain certification; Must be willing to work towards obtaining NC Certified County Clerk status through UNC-School of Government within a reasonable timeframe, and maintain that status; Possess and maintain a valid driver's license with a safe driving record.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
